ABOUT OBOA

 

Since 1970, OBOA has worked towards improving their community, especially in supporting the education and development of minority youth.  Currently there are around 300 active OBOA members representing the Oakland Police Department, the Oakland Fire Department, and members of Oakland civic service as well as members of the community.  

 

The purpose of the OBOA is receive and administer funds for scientific, educational, and charitable purposes; to foster educational institutions by the establishment of student grants; to provide scholarships to deserving students for the purpose of pursuing higher education; to establish a legal defense fund for the purpose of giving grants and loans to Oakland Black Officers Association members for attorney’s fees; to make direct grant or loans to charitable organizations and educational institutions; to make direct grants or loans to distressed members of the Oakland Black Offices Association.

 

Our major concerns are the development of the minority community, community relations, and improving communications between the police department and the minority community.
